Karlovy Vary Festival launched the new trailer for this year's edition, which was shown for the first time during the opening ceremony of the 57th edition. This is a first precedent. The trailer is usually shown before the festival's film screenings. Especially the films of the two main competitions, and not during the opening segments of the festival. This is likely because the star of this year's trailer is well-known American actor Johnny Depp.

American actor, producer and musician Johnny Depp was a guest at the festival in its 55th session, held in 2021 . At that time, his visit was met with great interest by fans and all festival-goers, regardless of their differences. From here came the idea of ​​following the same distinguished approach followed in honoring award-winning guests in previous editions of the festival, and presenting Johnny Depp’s special clip for this year’s edition.

All recent releases of trailers for winners of Karlovy Vary Festival Honors or other awards have featured a black-and-white-only design. Over the years, the trailer has become a major work of art in its own right, a highlight for each year's tournament. The clip captures the unique atmosphere of the festival as a whole, and brings back memories of the honorees from past years of the festival. The idea of​​filming small film clips, which distinguishes the festival from other festivals around the world, was born fifteen years ago. In 2008, the festival came up with a new and unique approach as an unprecedented festival propaganda consisting of small cinematic stories, starring the winners of the festival’s main awards, the “Honorary Crystal Ball”, for outstanding artistic contribution to the field of world cinema, or the “Honorary Festival President’s Award”. The first series featured a group of actors, including Danny DeVito and Harvey Keitel. The directors include Miloš Forman and Vera Chytilová.

Over recent years, film clips have grown and developed greatly, and have become highly professional, artistic, intelligent, and funny, as well. It included starring names such as: Andy Garcia, Jude Law, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, and Yuri Menzel. Johnny Depp is the eighteenth star to appear in the trailer. Unusually, this year's special clip was in color, not black and white. Following the funny and sarcastic approach of most advertising films, which - strangely - mock the festival award, whether because of its weight, its magnitude, or many other reasons that prompt recipients to abandon it or get rid of it, the clip about Johnny Depp was very funny, based primarily on irony.

It is known that Johnny Depp did not win any award at the Karlovy Vary Festival, even an honorary one. In the trailer, a journalist interviews Johnny Depp, and mentions awards and festivals. He mentioned the Karlovy Vary Festival, which he recently attended, and that he did not receive any of its awards, despite being invited to the festival, and how very strange it was. Johnny Depp opens the guitar case he is carrying, takes out a crystal ball award statuette, and places it in front of her. The journalist is astonished. She turns the statue towards her and finds that Johnny Depp has placed a sticker on its base and written his name on it instead of the name of the real winner, with the date 2017.
