It’s just a
matter of few days and Saw X will be unleashed onto cinemas, 29
September.
Saw X is an
upcoming American horror film directed and edited by Kevin Greutert, and
written by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. It is the tenth installment
overall in the Saw film series and serves as both a direct sequel to Saw (2004)
and a prequel to Saw II (2005). The film stars Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith,
Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach and Renata Vaca.
This will be
the first entry in the franchise since 2021's Spiral: From the Book of Saw,
which actually attempted to move away from Tobin Bell's John Kramer. For this
installment, we're taking a trip back in time, as the new film is actually set
between the events of Saw and Saw II, which is how Jigsaw is coming back even
though he's been canonically dead since the ending of Saw III. While there are
sure to be plenty of surprises in store, the official synopsis reads as
follows:
Kevin Greutert,
who previously directed two other Saw films, revealed at the Midsummer Scream
2023 convention (via The Direct) that Saw X will be the longest movie in the
franchise. Greutert assured fans that the extended runtime of Saw X is not due
to unnecessary scenes but rather a testament to the well-crafted storytelling
and execution of the film. He said:
Saw X recently
released its trailer giving us our first glimpse of what to expect. While the
trailer does reveal some aspects of the movie, the director Greutert assured
the audience that there's still a lot more to the story that hasn't been shown.
He expressed gratitude to Lionsgate for their efforts in promoting the movie
and creating excitement around it. Despite what the trailer might suggest, he
believes there are many surprises and twists in the film, and it won't
disappoint viewers who think they've seen it all.
Story
John Kramer
(Tobin Bell) is back. The most chilling installment of the SAW franchise yet
explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the
events of SAW I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky
and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer –
only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable.
Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on
the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and
terrifying traps.
Saw XI
Saw X producers
Mark Burg and Oren Koules already have plans to bring Jigsaw back for an
eleventh Saw movie.
Koules
confirmed they’ve already begun discussing where the Saw franchise could be
headed after the upcoming tenth film. Saying that “We’re kind of
superstitious,” Koules said. “We tend not to get too far ahead of ourselves.
The movie’s going to be released in a few days. For us, we do have ideas for
the next one, we haven’t put pen to paper. But this is his story, we really
wanted it to be John Kramer’s story and tell a John Kramer story. So for the
first 30 minutes of the movie, he’s John Kramer, you don’t have any hint of
Jigsaw.”
James Wan and
Leigh Whannell introduced the world to John Kramer (Tobin Bell), better known
as the Jigsaw Killer, in 2004. A total of eight Saw sequels have since been
released, including 2005’s Saw II, 2006’s Saw III, 2007’s Saw IV, 2008’s Saw V,
2009’s Saw VI, 2010’s Saw 3D, 2017’s Jigsaw, and 2021’s Spiral: From the Book
of Saw.
The latest
entry in the franchise, Saw X, is directed by Kevin Greutert with a screenplay
by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger. A prequel set between the events of Saw
and Saw II, the movie sees Bell return as John Kramer, while Shawnee Smith will
reprise her role as Amanda Young. Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, and
Michael Beach also star.
